Sunday was such a crazy day, sun snow, rain, blizzards, we had it all. We went for a hike up Alnes and got a little bit stuck in all the snow that fell down on us. From the time we started to the time we finished there was an extra four feet of snow added to the mountain. It wasn’t just at the top either, climbing down from the peak the snow was just as deep and made our trip a fair bit longer. What made it worse was the fact that the snow was heavy and wet. So instead of simply moving aside like dust, it just piled up on our boots and weighed us down, exhausting us very quickly. The positive to this hike was that it brought us all closer together and that the sights on the way to the top of the mountain were just beautiful. Thus hike is easily one of my favourite ones around Aalesund.
Luckily at the end of this crazy hike, our base leader, who has a house on the Island, let us come in for soup and hot drinks. It was a wonderful time and it felt incredible to warm up our toes by the fire. It was a real blessing and I can know that I will never forget this hike.
Here's the storm just starting to hit. Little fluffy flakes melting on our hot cheeks, adding to the whole experience.
A brief moment of silence and a quick view of fjords as we near the top. Not even 5 seconds after this shot the entire view was gone. Nothing but white to be seen and snow quickly whipping at our faces again.
Here's the crew at the beginning of the hike, we weren't quite so chipper by the end, but man it's one trip we won't be forgetting any time soon!
The week started really abruptly, I accidently slept through my alarm on Monday and almost missed the first class of lectures. Luckily I made it though, because this was the week I think I had been waiting for this entire DTS. Almost everything our speaker said was so close to my heart and the weird thing is that the lecture was on spiritual warfare. Normally Im not much for spending time on the spiritual side of Christianity, demons and angels and such, but something about this week really spoke to me. It made me realize different sides of my life that I didn’t know or think about too often. It was a real heart tugger, but I’m so glad it happened.
The lectures ended just as abruptly as they began, the speaker having to leave early because we needed to spend some time on outreach prep. Thursday we spent the day training in first aid and man was it hilarious. Each ourtreach group was given an injury to demonstrate how to fix and because I’m in a creative school, you can imagine the kind of demonstrations that happened. There was a rap, a few dramas, makeup, monologues and even a bit of parkour! It was really quite an even and there were lots of laughs that went around while it all happened.
The day continued with a few more lectures and lessons on what we should do while on outreach, how we should act, what we should and shouldn’t eat. Pretty basic stuff for the most part, but the whole prepping for outreach finally is really exciting. Feels like it finally actually happening and I’m so psyched about it!
Thursday night the Film track held the Savey award and premiered their films and man what a night it was. The films were so incredible and everyone had such a good night. It turned out to be really great event and theyre hoping that maybe this will become a YWAM tradition in the future.
Now basically we will clean up the base and pack things up so that we are ready for outreach. Not much to be done until the flights arrive.
4 days to go!!
